MTN Joyous Celebrations spent four days at The Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) this week for rehearsals, before their live recording of the new Joyous Celebration 24 DVD and CDs, which will be kicking off on 13 December at the Sun Arena in Sun City.
This gospel choir was formed in 1994 and what was merely meant to be a one-time studio project by South African musicians turned into a massive platform for upcoming South African artists. The choir has enjoyed great success in South Africa and the rest of the African continent, having released 23 albums as of 2019. It is one of South Africa's most successful gospel choirs and this December, they will be releasing their 24th album which will be recorded live for their CD/DVD (release date to be confirmed).
Our very own Evert De Munnik (Pictured above) has been their Live sound engineer since 2014 and was in charge of their 4 day rehearsals at the M2 studio in the SABC. He also recorded and mixed their DVD’s and CD’s since Joyous Celebration 21 (2016) and toured with them in the USA.
Evert has worked with Mango Groove, Johnny Clegg, Def Leppard, Deep Purple to name but a few and has been in the industry since 1983, working at events like Woodstock (USA), KKNK, SAMA Awards, 46664 live Global broadcast, Nelson Mandela's Inauguration 1995 live Global broadcast and many more!
He made working with 30+ people look easy as he recorded the rehearsal sessions and kept everything going smoothly. It has been an exciting 4 days that the choir enjoyed just as much as the ASE staff and students that helped out with setup, photos and video.
