Understanding Trauma
- Confidential Student Support
It is important to remember that functioning in Survival Mode is abnormal, but has been necessary. Covid struggles are universal, meaning we are all in the same storm. However, amidst the pandemic, you may have discovered the small benefits of a pandemic within your personal life or work. Each person has an individual way of coping. If you haven’t found a coping style yet, don't worry, that is normal.
- What is Trauma?
Trauma occurs when physical injury is caused by some direct external force or psychological injury is caused by some extreme emotional assault. Traumatic events can happen at any age and each person has a different reaction. Going through very stressful, frightening, or distressing events are sometimes called Trauma.
What is PTSD?
An anxiety disorder that emerges following psychologically distressing, traumatic events such as a natural disaster, a bad accident, war, or rape.
This syndrome includes re-experiencing the trauma in dreams, recurrent thoughts, and images, a kind of psychological numbness.
